Porter is a Mexican indie rock band based in Guadalajara, Mexico. Their music is between alternative, indie, and experimental.
Porter is: Juan Pablo aka "Chata" (Drums), Victor aka "Villor" (guitar,
piano), Juan Carlos aka "Mussgo" (voice), Fernando aka "ffernand
porter" (guitar) and Diego aka "Bacter" (bass, Synth, programmer).
Their sound consists in the mixture of electronic and acoustic drums,
rock guitars, sound loops and Mussgo's distinctive femminoid voice and
squeals. Their lyrics are a mixture between english and spanish.
Their major influences include Radiohead, Pixies, The Cure, Air, Sigur
Rós, Brian Eno, Múm, The Flaming Lips, Röyksopp, M83, Café Tacuba, Zoé,
Caifanes and others.
Porter was formed in May 2004, and the beginning, they were an
instrumental band until Mussgo joined the band that year. Then recorded
the EP called "Donde los Ponys Pastan", with 3er piso records, an
Mexican indie record label. This EP was produced by Alejandro Pérez
Orco (member of Azul Violeta) and includes seven songs like: No te
encuentro, Girl, Daphne, Bipolar and their most famous song Espiral.
There are also two instrumental songs in this EP called "Interlude" and
"Interlude complicado" in which there are no vocals. Later that year,
became into the semi-final in an indie rock bands contest called
0-music, with the song No te encuentro.
