Have you realized how the web is getting filled up by content?
Web 2.0 is here.
Are people actually catching up to it?

Now a days its pretty easy to write stuff on the web and get it posted online, make your own picture gallery and post your pictures online, upload videos for everyone to see. The whole concept of the web 2.0 is clearly here. Apparently there's a blog being born every half a second, The way we collaborate with each other is clearly changing.

When blogging started most people started using it as a personal means of communication, it was mostly used as online diaries. There has been picture gallery sites where you can upload and keep your pictures online since a long time ago. When Wikipedia started it gained a lot of popularity but it was at the same time regarded by many scholars as a very bad source of information since it was open to the public anyone could literally post whatever they wanted about whatever they wanted, in fact you still can. So whats changed since then? The way people use them. Wikipedia gained respect after users started adding sources to prove whatever they wrote, blogs are not only used as diaries anymore but they have become one of the main sources of information as the authors choose to write about interesting or useful things instead of their own boring lives, they are making their blogs some sort of editorial or something similar to the columns in a magazine or the like. Pictures in galleries are not there to be kept there anymore but to be shared with others. Interaction between people have increased to such an extent that many popular sites on the web have the sole purpose of interaction between people like digg, delicious, etc; where people share and rate sites.

Interaction between web users has made the web very dynamic and now even politicians are using it the same way, the best example is the upcoming elections in the USA. Anyone can write whatever they want, anyone can post whatever pictures or videos they want but are people actually seeing it? Millions of blogs around the world are being updated each day but are people actually reading them?

The content on the Internet is increasing significantly, even the old style angelfire websites are being updated with content constantly. Topics are endless and many repeat themselves endlessly as well. With thousands of resources appearing whenever one single topic is searched are the Internet users actually reading them? I'm pretty sure there are thousands of blogs, sites, galleries, etc that nobody sees. Hell this site is the best example, it started off as a blog that nobody read. Now it reached 70 unique users in a single day this week which is very little compared to many other sites but its fine for a random personal blog of nonsense that's been up for two weeks or so.

The same web evolution is helping users keep track of content with the RSS technology being the best example. But I ask again, are people actually keeping up? How many blog readers out there actually use RSS readers? Google has one, its free and your already signed up for it with gmail but still not a lot of people actually use it, hell I constantly get asked by friends to send them an email each time I update the blog; USE RSS READERS. And its even worst for the sites that don't even have the technology, they rely on users randomly accessing their site so that they actually know there's something new, most of them simply stop doing it.

Its obvious there's too much content on the web for users to actually be keeping track of everything but its even worst if the users have no idea of the relatively new technologies(RSS has been there for years now and a lot of people don't even know it exists). There's so much things to keep up with that I sometimes even wonder if this site is being read at all...

...I'm going to install the darn digg extension and digg it myself :P
